Built to Last: How Gregg Renfrew Built a Billion-Dollar Brand, Sold It, and Started Over with Stronger Systems

In this session, Gregg joins Female Founder Collective's Co-Founder, Rebecca Minkoff, to discuss the hires that change the shape of a business (and why the smartest one might not be someone on your payroll), the systems she is building before she needs them, and what she knows now about building a tech stack — including Salesforce — that moves with you instead of against you.

Gregg Renfrew built Beautycounter into a billion-dollar acquisition at a time when the entire industry thought clean beauty was a niche. Then she watched what happened when the wrong systems, the wrong operators, and too much outside capital took over the thing she built. Then she bought it back and started over.

She has now launched Counter, a DTC clean beauty brand for women 35 and older, and Beecee, a community-first brand for women ages 14 to 30, which has already attracted more than 10,000 community members across all 50 states before a single product has hit the market.

She is running two brands, for two completely different audiences, on two completely different timelines, at the same time.

This event is about what it actually takes to do that.

Specifically, in this session, you'll learn:

  • How Gregg is running two brands for two completely different audiences at the same time, and how she thinks about keeping them from competing for the same bandwidth
  • What she sequenced first when relaunching Counter lean, and why building community before product changed everything for Beecee
  • The hire and system that changes the shape of a company, and how to know when you are ready to make it
  • How to build a tech stack that moves with your business instead of one you have to tear down and rebuild every time your ambition outpaces your current setup
  • What systems Gregg is putting in place now, before she needs them, so that team, operations, culture, and community can carry the weight of what she is building
  • What she would do differently if she were starting from zero today, and what she would protect at all costs

Gregg Renfrew is the founder of Counter and Beecee, and the founder and former CEO of Beautycounter, the certified B Corporation that defined the clean beauty category and sold to The Carlyle Group for $1 billion in 2021. Earlier in her career, she founded The Wedding List, which was acquired by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, and served as CEO of Best & Co. She has testified before Congress on ingredient safety and has spoken at Wharton, Stanford, Fortune's Most Powerful Women, and Vanity Fair's Founders Fair, among others.

This session is presented in partnership with Salesforce.
Salesforce Starter Suite brings sales, service, marketing, and payments together around the same customer data, so founders always have the context they need — the right information, at the right moment. RSVP to this event and access a 30-day free trial to the Salesforce Starter Suite, and when your ambition outpaces your current setup, Pro Suite is ready when you are.
