AI isn’t just for tech companies—it’s a tool every founder can use to work faster, smarter, and more intentionally. But with so many tools, trends, and headlines, it can be hard to know where to start.
That’s where Joan Nguyen, Co-Founder and CEO of Bumo, comes in. Joan has been writing and speaking extensively about AI’s potential for founders and operators, sharing practical ways to integrate AI into daily business workflows without losing the human touch.
In this interactive workshop, Joan will cover:
- How to cut through the hype and identify the AI tools that actually make sense for your business
- Simple, high-impact ways to use AI to save time, streamline processes, and boost creativity
- How to balance speed and efficiency with intentional, human-led decision-making
- Real examples of how founders across industries (including non-tech) are leveraging AI today
Joan’s perspective is rooted in her own entrepreneurial journey: from building MeriEducation with just $3K into an Inc. 500 company, to co-founding Bumo, which has evolved from co-working with childcare into a groundbreaking on-demand childcare marketplace. Along the way, Joan has raised $10M in funding from top investors like Offline Ventures and True Ventures, and she continues to champion the use of AI to empower founders, families, and businesses alike.
You’ll leave this session with:
- A clear framework for evaluating where AI can add the most value to your business
- A starter list of practical AI use cases you can implement immediately
- The confidence to approach AI intentionally—not reactively
Whether you’re AI-curious or already experimenting, this workshop will help you harness AI as a growth partner, not just another tool.
MEET YOUR HOST
Joan Nguyen and her co-founder, Chriselle Lim, launched Bumo in 2019, driven by their personal experiences as working mothers struggling to find flexible, high-quality childcare. Initially starting as a physical co-working space with on-site childcare, Bumo pivoted amid the pandemic, creating BumoBrain, a virtual learning platform, to meet pressing childcare demands. This innovation earned them a spot on the cover of Entrepreneur Mag as a standout company adapting during COVID.
In 2024, Bumo pivoted and launched its on-demand childcare marketplace, offering instant booking and no subscription fees, likening the ease of accessing childcare to ordering groceries or booking a ride. This changed everything for working families - fulfilling the increasing need for accessible and flexible child care options catering to children ages 0-17.
Bumo recently announced its $10M in seed funding led by Offline Ventures and True Ventures, with participation from notable VC firms and influencers like Rocky Barnes, actress Jamie Chung, Ellen Chen (Mendocino Farms), and Vanessa Dew (Health-Ade).
Joan's inspiring journey began with humble beginnings as she was raised by refugee parents who prioritized education despite limited resources. She channeled her entrepreneurial spirit to establish MeriEducation in 2007, an Inc 500 company, with just $3k. Her perseverance and vision led her to co-found Bumo in 2019, further exemplifying her dedication to creating impactful solutions.
